Call for Abstracts!

The Florida Society of the Social Sciences (F3S) invites you to present your panel, paper, art presentation, poster, or workshop at the 18th Annual Conference of the Social Sciences (CSS). The conference, “Contesting Boundaries of Freedom: Challenges and Opportunities,” will be held at the University of Florida from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 13, 2024.

This interdisciplinary conference provides graduate and undergraduate students from diverse fields of the social sciences the opportunity to showcase their research in a collegiate environment and to network with other social science students/researchers on campus. This year’s conference aims to provide a platform for emerging scholars to explore and engage with the multifaceted dimensions of freedom, its contested boundaries, and the diverse challenges and opportunities it presents in the contemporary world.

Types of Submissions:

We welcome panels, papers, or poster presentations from graduate students (and advanced undergraduates) in the humanities, social sciences, and interdisciplinary fields. We also welcome workshop proposals from students, faculty, and community leaders.

1. Panel: Panels will be composed of 4-6 presentations on a specific topic and discussion. Panels will last one hour, and each presenter will have 10 to 15 minutes to share their research. A collective reflection with questions and answers will follow all presentations.

2. Formal Paper Sessions: These formal sessions include 15-minute presentations of forthcoming research. Presentations will be grouped thematically to form a complete session. A question-and-answer session will follow all presentations.

3. Poster Sessions: Posters are appealing visual representations illustrating a research question, methods, and outcomes. Posters will be displayed during scheduled time slots, and presenters can discuss their research with conference attendees. All stages of work are welcome.

4. Art Presentation: Art Presentations are a creative way to present your research. All formats are welcome (video, photo, collage, poetry, spoken poetry, etc). Art Presentations will be between 10 and 15 minutes. A question-and-answer session will follow all presentations.

5. Workshops: Workshops are individual sessions focusing on providing information and hands-on activities to students and early career scholars. We encourage workshop submissions focusing on professional development, community engagement, relevant technologies, etc.
